Standard 2: Teaching, Learning, and Assessments. Technology Coaches assist teachers in using technology effectively for assessing student learning, differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences for all students.
One of my favorite parts about being a teacher is connecting with all different types of students. I enjoy seeing students who have struggled with traditional methods of learning, or who have additional needs or challenges, thrive in my classroom when I am able to connect with them. By developing my proficiency in this standard, I am able to hone my ability to connect with all students and differentiate my instruction with technology to meet their needs. Furthermore, when developing my abilities as a technology coach on this standard, I am able to work with my colleagues to engage our students and enhance their learning.
Artifact 1: To demonstrate proficiency with this standard, I completed a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Lesson Plan and utilized it in my classroom with my co-teacher. By using the UDL, we were able to provide flexible ways of instruction and different pathways to learning for our students. In this particular lesson, we taught our students about slope-intercept form. One area that our students really enjoyed were the different methods they could express content knowledge. Several student groups got very creative when creating their videos.

By developing this lesson plan, I specifically met sub-sections b and e: (ISTE, 2011)
b. design and implementation of technology-enhanced experiences using research- based strategies
e.design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences using differentiation, including adjusting content, process, product, and learning environment based upon student readiness levels, learning styles, interests, and personal goals.

Being a Coach: I demonstrated competence in this standard by collaborating with my colleague to enhance the learning environment for our students through the UDL lesson plan. I want to continue to utilize this model when developing curriculum for my students. For instance, I work with a group of Algebra teachers to develop our curriculum map. I plan to introduce the UDL as a way to ensure that our lessons are designed with an eye towards technology and differentiated learning experiences.
